Former ATP star is not worried about Carlos Alcaraz after his Miami exit

Carlos Alcaraz has suffered two losses in the last three matches played

The world No.1 – who had started the season in formidable fashion by triumphing at the Australian Open and Doha ATP 500 – was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells semifinals, but hoped to get a better result at the Miami Open where he triumphed in the 2022 edition.

The Spanish ace defeated Joao Fonseca in straight sets in the second round, before suffering a very surprising loss to local idol Sebastian Korda in the next round. The American star put in a performance that exceeded expectations at Hard Rock Stadium, but the seven-time Grand Slam champion seemed too nervous and frustrated for most of the match.

Fans and insiders thought he was capable of completing the comeback after winning the second set, but the world number 36 was superior to Carlitos in the third set as well, achieving the most memorable win of his career so far. After praising his opponent for his amazing performance, the 22-year-old from Murcia confided that he needs a small break at this stage and it is for this reason that he will rest for a few days before starting to practice on red clay.

Interviewed by ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, former Italian ace Paolo Bertolucci – current commentator for ‘Sky Sport Italy’ – analysed Carlos’ loss in Florida: “His premature elimination in Florida was certainly surprising, but we must not forget that he has already won the Australian Open this year and was his main goal. I thought the Spanish star would be able to complete the comeback, but it was Korda who prevailed against the odds.”

Bertolucci continued: “Alcaraz needs to recharge his batteries right now and find his motivation again. I have no doubt that he will be back to his best level soon.”
