Reason why Carlos Alcaraz is more popular than Jannik Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner continue to be the symbolic faces of the ATP tour.

Right now, the Italian ace is going through a more favorable moment than his huge rival. The 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria has not only won the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, but has also returned to the top of the ATP rankings and can extend his advantage over Carlitos in the upcoming tournaments.

The 22-year-old Spaniard – on the other hand – lost the final in the Principality and had to withdraw from Barcelona ATP 500 due to a wrist injury, which will force him to miss the Mutua Madrid Open for the second year in a row.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion has admitted that his injury is more serious than expected and there is no certain date for his return to action, but everyone’s hope is to see him back on the court as soon as possible.

Alcaraz has over three million followers

Alcaraz has to defend 1000 points at the Rome Masters 1000 and 2000 at Roland Garros, where he won a truly epic final last year by canceling three match points in a row against Sinner on the iconic Philippe Chatrier. The world number 2 did not want to specify what injury it is, but it is not the first time that Carlos has suffered a problem of this type during the tour on the red clay.

During the latest edition of the ‘Spout’ podcast, Patrick McEnroe was asked who is more popular between Alcaraz and Sinner. McEnroe’s choice fell on the Spanish champion and he explained the reason:

“Well Alcaraz you’ve got to put at the top of the list, now he’s got considerably more majors than Sinner,” said McEnroe. “But the way he plays, he plays with such joy, he plays with an incredible variety of shots. You know, he hits shots that we didn’t even think were possible and he does them with regularity.

I find that tennis players, their game often models in a way their personality. Are they outgoing, do they go for their shots, do they come to the net? Sinner’s a little bit more of a reserved guy off the court, but he couldn’t be nicer and he couldn’t be classier.”
